Two Suitcases Family Promenade Day at IMMA
Join Helium Arts for a special family promenade day at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Saturday 25 June 2016. You will be given a trail map to seek out film installations throughout the grounds of IMMA created by young members of CanTeen Ireland. Each film piece is a unique response to the history of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham and the veteran soldiers who lived there.
Developing parallel to discourses on the Decade of Commemoration, Helium’s Two Suitcases Project in 2015 was inspired by the Old Man’s House, an OPW exhibition exploring the history of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Members of CanTeen, the national young people’s cancer support group, created a series of short film pieces with support from professional artists, drawing on the stories of the military veterans who resided at the hospital and exploring themes of hospitality, institutionalisation and wellbeing.
The day will include an exhibition, a behind-the-scenes documentary, an opportunity to talk to the young creators about their work and much more besides!
The Two Suitcases Family Promenade Day is curated by visual artist Siobhán Clancy who has designed a series of viewing platforms to house the films. This film installation has been created by members of CanTeen Ireland with mentorship from artists Siobhán Clancy, Alan Brennan, Alan Leonard, Louise Manifold, Ben Murnane and Two Suitcases alumni Stephen O’Driscoll and Eoghan McConnell.
