Helium is really looking forward to this year’s Puppet Portal Project which is starting on Wednesday. We’ve been busy over the last few weeks getting everything ready. We started off with a webinar hosted by Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership where the artists heard a talk by Mary O’Connor from Children in Hospital Ireland. On Monday 20th September, the Puppet Portal artists; Siobhán Clancy, Sally Maidment, Emma Fisher and Niamh Lawlor along with Fionnuala Conway who will be researching the use of music and music technology on the project and Anna Rosenfelder who will be linking in from her studio during the project, met for a day of planning and exchange. Artists had the chance to try out the link-up as well as presenting their own working practices and hearing about everyone else.
Last Monday we had a fantastic Creative Exchange day where all of the artists and hospital partners came together with Helium, Kids’ Own and the Centre for Health Informatics for a full day of planning, exchange and training. The Centre for Health Informatics showed everyone how to use the webportal, Siobhán, Emma and the hospitals shared some of their experiences from last year’s project and we also made time for some hands on making as well as a great music session with Fionnuala.
So we’re finally ready to start, the internet connections have been tested, the materials have been sourced, everyone is sporting new Helium t-shirts and aprons and with the amount of enthusiasm and creativity in the room last Monday, it looks like it’s going be a fabulous 10 weeks. We’ll be posting videos and photos over the next few weeks as well as updates on the project. The artists will also be keeping blogs on www.practice.ie with more detailed reflection on the project.
