Anna McCarthy joins the Helium team as Arts Administrator / Fundraising Researcher
We’re delighted that Anna McCarthy will be working with us as Arts Administrator / Fundraising Researcher.
Anna McCarthy began her career working in the restaurant industry while studying Event Management. Between 2001 and 2004 she worked within the Lemongrass Restaurants chain carrying out varied roles, until being appointed Assistant Restaurant Manager. Moving to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand in 2004, she joined a three-person team to establish the 501(c)3 nonprofit organisation, Cultural Canvas Thailand (CCT) as project coordinator. Her work with CCT instilled an appreciation for the therapeutic value of the arts as a place for expression among marginalised and stigmatised communities.
Upon returning to Ireland in 2008, Anna undertook a BA (HONS) in Sociology and French. Alongside her studies, she established Luminous Live Events. Running between 2009 and 2012, Luminous Live was set up on a non-profit basis with a small seed fund from Waterford City Arts Office. A number of events provided a platform for creative expression and social engagement among a creative community. In 2012, an interest in organisational sustainability and self-sufficiency became the focus of research carried out for UCD’s MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management. As part of the course, she completed a placement in Business to Arts, gaining insight into strategies for fundraising and revenue generation in the nonprofit arts sector.
