Two Suitcases Project 2015
Summer is nearly here and we’re ready to start a new phase of the Two Suitcases film project. We’ll be working for a second year with CanTeen Ireland, the nationwide support organisation for young people with cancer or who have previously had cancer. We really enjoyed working with CanTeen members last summer on a series of shorts busting myths about young people with cancer. There was a fantastic turnout at our film screening in March at the IFI. Many thanks to all who attended on the day!
This year, we’ll be treading new terrain with our young participants and crack team of artists, led by Siobhan Clancy with filmmaker Alan Brennan and writer Ben Murnane. We’ll be hosting an introductory workshop in May, an opportunity for participants to learn film-making skills in a fun way. In July, we head to Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre, where visual artist Louise Manifold will be joining us to host an experimental film workshop. Finally, The Irish Museum of Museum Art (IMMA) will once again be hosting us for our August summer camp. Each phase of Two Suitcases is a chance to explore different facets of film practice and the digital arts so we’re really looking forward to seeing how this year unfolds …
In the meantime, check out our film from last year’s project, Mythbusting with CanTeen, a poignant and often humorous exploration of people’s preconceptions of teenagers with cancer.
Want to learn more about our filmmaking process? An accompanying behind-the-scenes documentary from last year’s project with CanTeen includes interviews with participants and artist mentors and lots of great footage of the young people in action.
The Two Suitcases Project 2015 is produced by Helium Arts in partnership with CanTeen Ireland and in association with the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The project is funded by The Arts Council, The Ireland Funds, the Cork Street Fund, the Irish Games Association, Allianz and the Civil Service Credit Union. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Norma Walsh O’Driscoll.
