Panel Discussion at The Lab
19 May, 6pm, The Lab, Foley Street, Dublin 1.

Chair: Annette Moloney

Panel: Rachel Tynan (artist, Temple Street), Eszter Némethi (artist, CUH), Dr Emma Curtis (Medical Director, National Paediatric Hospital Development Board) Marie Brett (artist), Aideen Barry (artist)

Cloudlands was a three-year artist residency project for teenagers in hospital which took place in CUH and Temple Street. This panel discussion explores the very rich process which the artists engaged in with patients and brings together the views of artists and medical practitioners on the value of the arts in healthcare contexts.

This talk is aimed at medical and nursing students and staff as well as artists interested in arts and health.

This event is free but booking is recommended:

Launch at ArtBox
The talk will be followed by the opening of the Cloudlands exhibition and wine reception at ArtBox, James Joyce Street. The exhibition will be opened by artist Aideen Barry.

All are welcome at the launch and discussion event.

Teenagers in Temple Street worked with artist Rachel Tynan to develop the ‘Titans’, an interactive installation formed through a family of beautiful wooden figures. As the figures are moved into different combinations, they reveal sound recordings of the teenagers’ stories, from a Star Lady who heals to a transforming cheeky Faun. The ‘Titans’ will tour to ArtBox.

‘Radio/Silence’, developed by artist Eszter Némethi and teenagers in Cork University Hospital, is an interactive radio game that alters the hospital environment for the listener. Using mobile phones, listeners can help the characters save the world from an evil doctor intent on spreading silence. ‘Radio/Silence’ will tour to teenagers at Tallaght Hospital from 26 May to 2 June and will also be available for the public to access at ArtBox.
