Performer Roseanne Lynch joins Helium’s Pop Up Picnic team

Helium Arts is delighted to announce that actor and playwright Roseanne Lynch is joining the Pop Up Picnic creative team. Pop Up Picnic is a Helium Arts production for young children with complex needs, devised by musician Thomas Johnston, puppeteer Niamh Lawlor, and director Joanna Williams. The artists visit families in their homes, using music, sound, puppetry, movement and tactile environments to provide families with new ways of bonding with their child. In 2017, the Pop Up Picnic toured to family homes in Kildare and Tipperary. This year, the project is being adapted for young audiences outside the home.

Pop Up Picnic was developed with families in Kildare in 2016 in partnership with nurses from the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and co-produced by Kildare County Council Arts Service within its Art, Health and Wellbeing programme. The 2018 project is taking place in Dublin.

Roseanne Lynch is an actor and playwright. She trained at the Samuel Beckett Centre, Dublin, and Drama Centre London. Performance credits include Couples and Pairs 2 (Blue Heart/Theatre Upstairs), Imelda McClory’s Snowflake Story (Welly Boots), Sisters of the Rising (For the Birds), Overshadowed (Sunday’s Child), Whisky Galore (National Theatre of Scotland), The Vikings at Helgeland (Firstborn Theatre), Macbeth (RIFT), Recording Hedda (Ibsen Stage Company) and An Ideal Husband (Abbey Theatre). Roseanne recently received an Emerging Artist Bursary from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office to support the development of a new play she is writing.

I am very excited to be joining the Pop Up Picnic team. I love performing for young audiences, and performing in immersive pieces of theatre, and this is a wonderful combination of those two things. I think I could learn a lot from working with Helium, and heighten my sensitivity, not only as a performer, but also as a human being and mother to a five-month-old girl, for whom every day is a multi-sensory exploration. – Roseanne Lynch
