For children with long-term physical health conditions—whose works were featured in JOURNEYS – Everything Begins Somewhere—that “somewhere” may look different, but it’s no less powerful. Each creation serves as a personal starting point on their journey toward independence.
Hosted at Súil Gallery in Ennis, this unique art exhibition brought together work created by children and young people with long-term physical health conditions. These artists participated in creative community camps held across Ennis, Nenagh, and Limerick City, as well as in the Paediatric Inclusion Health Clinics in Ennis Hospital, Tyone Health Centre (Nenagh), and University Hospital Limerick.
Each of the artworks featured welcomes us to witness the journeys of these young artists as they create their own paths in life – reminding us that a journey isn’t only about where it leads, but also about the stories it tells along the way. Have a look at some of the pictures from the showcase below.
Ennis Exhibition: A Community Celebration
The Ennis exhibition was originally scheduled to run from 24 May to 7 June, but due to popular demand, it was extended until 21 June. The exhibition brought together art, community, and connection at the newly opened Súil Gallery. The space was alive with creativity and local energy.
The launch was filled with warmth and energy, featuring live music by local children, a welcome address from the Mayor of Ennis, and a moving speech from a parent reflecting on the impact of the Helium journey for families.
While visiting the exhibition, guests could also enjoy hands-on and inclusive activities—like a playful doodle table, thoughtful accessibility supports including fidget toys, and a carefully designed layout that guided visitors through the stories behind the art.
