Spring 2025: A Season of Creativity, Connection, and Big Smiles

This spring, creativity bloomed across the country as young people joined Helium for another season of imagination, connection, and joyful expression. From hands-on workshops in local communities to lively online sessions linking friends across counties, our Spring Programme was packed with moments to remember.

Youth Voices Leading the Way

One of the standout moments came in February, when our Youth Advisory Group (YAG) launched their very own zine at the Dublin Digital Hub. Packed with their words, ideas, and artwork, it was a celebration of youth voice in action.

We also hosted Youth Voice focus group workshops in Cork and Limerick with artists Ashleigh Ellis and Emma Fisher, helping shape our brand-new Youth Participation Framework – successfully launched in May. Read more here:

Spaces to Create, Online and In-Person

For children aged 8–12, our in-person community workshops were a chance to make new friends, try new art forms, and feel completely at home. From tunnel books to mural painting, every activity encouraged self-expression without fear of “getting it wrong.” As one parent told us:

Her attendance at many camps has collectively enhanced creativity as a means of expression.”

Our online Spring Saturday sessions also had a brilliant turnout. Children joined live on Zoom, swapped pen-pal letters, and worked on projects at their own pace. Parents loved the flexibility — especially for families managing health needs or busy weekend schedules.

Little Moments, Big Impact

It wasn’t just about making art — it was about building confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. We heard stories of children who came in shy and left buzzing with excitement, and of quiet connections made over shared experiences. One artist told us about a young participant who attended on their own for the first time — and left smiling from ear to ear.

Bringing Art to Hospitals

This spring, almost 2,000 children took part in our Hospital Programme across seven regions. From Cork to Dublin, these creative sessions offered a joyful break from the hospital routine — a chance to focus on fun, not just treatment.

Powered by Incredible Volunteers

We welcomed 64 new volunteers to begin their training with us this spring. Their energy and kindness made all the difference. Whether helping at workshops or cheering on young artists, they were at the heart of the programme. One volunteer summed it up perfectly:

“The kids brought so much energy, it was a privilege to witness their creativity.”

Looking Ahead

Summer’s just around the corner, and we can’t wait to keep the creativity flowing — with more workshops in the community and online, and more art-filled hospital visits.

To every child, parent, artist, volunteer, medic and supporter — thank you. You’ve helped make this season truly special.
