The Making of Magic Appeal

As part of ‘The Making of Magic Appeal’ five talented young people who attend Helium workshops have created five stunning pieces of art — and now, for the very first time, they get to share them with the world!

These unique digital prints are available exclusively as part of our Christmas appeal to help raise much needed funds to spread the Helium magic further. Perfect as a thoughtful Christmas gift or a burst of colour for your home or office, these prints are truly something special — made with creativity, heart, and excitement that you won’t find anywhere else.

Leah Fitton

Leah is always smiling. She loves music, spending time with friends, and getting creative. Born with a genetic condition that affects her speech and movement, art has become another way for Leah to communicate. Through Helium, she’s explored new materials, built her creative skills, and found new ways to share her voice with the world. Leah loves to give her creations to family and friends. This is one of the first times her art—and story—have been shared with the public.

Inspired by her family’s garden, this print “is 100% Leah’s own, and it’s gorgeous. She chose the theme, and when you look at it, you don’t just see Leah—you hear her voice,” Leah’s Mum, Marian, explains.

Barbara Rozmus

Barbara is always making things. She first joined Helium while waiting for a physiotherapy appointment, and has loved the chance to explore new techniques and meet other people like her. As she starts to think about the future, Barbara knows she knows she wants to keep on creating. She loves making gifts for friends and family, and hopes to sell some more of her work professionally.

Katie-Jean Cronin

Katie-Jean knows how it feels to spend a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms. It was how she met Ashleigh, one of our artists, and got involved with Helium. Two years later, she hasn’t just found a creative outlet — she’s found the confidence to be herself, and knows her creative projects will always have a special place alongside her studies and future career. Katie-Jean has never had her work commissioned before. It’s a little daunting, but she’s excited to see her work out there!

Shauna McNamara

Shauna has always loved art. Keen to make it part of her career, Helium has given her the chance to expand her skills and discover new tools and techniques. It’s complete creative freedom, and Shauna loves it. She isn’t afraid to trust her instincts, let loose, and see where the art takes her. This is the first time Shauna’s work has been commissioned. “It was unexpected,” she exclaims. “When I heard, I was I like – WHAT?! It’s brilliant.”

Talking about this print Shauna explains, “Abstract art is good because you have no idea what it’s going to be, it just appears. I was just trying to put different colours in different places, and this is what happened!”
